holding an empty plastic bottle over an open
昀氀ame. Once the bottle melts, it will never go back
to its original shape. This is what happens to our
bodies as a result of injuries, accidents, and other
destabilizing events. It’s also the same principle
Rolfers use to realign the body.
After assessing the client’s posture and gait, a
Rolfer starts applying precise pressure to free
bound tissues and restore proper alignment.
Note, however, that it’s not simply the pressure
being applied that evokes positive change.
Randomly applied pressure is what happens to
you in a car accident! The trick lies in knowing
where and how to apply the pressure, and this
is where the skill comes in. It’s been said that a
Rolfer’s eyes are even more important than his or
her hands in evoking healthy change.
